What is Web 2.0?Posted 2009-03-06 in ScriptsWeb 2.0 refers to the second and latest major phase of evolution for the World
Wide Web. It encapsulates a general shift to newer, more socially and technologically evolved Websites and Web services. As Tim O'Reilly states, O'Reilly Vice President Dale Dougherty introduced the concept of Web 2.0 in a brainstorming session between O'Reilly and MediaLive International. It is demarcated by the emerging recovery period following the dot-com crash in 2001. The term itself seems to have been introduced before it was even really defined. Thus, many individuals have now attempted to define exactly what Web 2.0 represented. Despite a clear definition, the feeling of a new type of Internet was emerging and Web 2.0 captured the essence of this new era. I explore the question further in Web 2.0 and the The Evolving Web on my personal blog. Comments invited! |
